We wanted a normal summer
But it wasn't normal
The ground burnt up
The leaves became dried and dead
The trees became brittle black ash
Our homes were unsafe

We prayed for rain
The heavens broke
Clouds crying for the ground
The sky grieving for the earth
The fires were extinguished (hooray!)
But the rain didn't stop

Is it too much to ask?
To not be burnt
To not be drowned
To have a normal summer?
