A Single Spark

A single spark and now this:
reds, oranges, fear, sadness, life, loss,
flames licking at houses and trees.
Death, injuries,
losing everything,
burning bodies,
eyes stinging with smoke and ash.
Blinded, scared,
the flames leap higher still
biting at trees and bushes and homes,
but people reach out to us,
people with helping hands and red coats.
They tame the fire,
they make it go
but all that's left are
skeletons of bulidings,
no more trees.
Homes gone for people and animals,
but we will rebuild
and it won't be long before it rains again.
