Abalone Shell

Its colour beyond riches
Found deep under the sea
It travels across sand
Rock and distant lands
Its hard shell covers
A colour of blues
Dyed the aurora borealis
All into one
It shimmers in a distant
And brings joy to me
Smooth underneath
With colours from the sea
Emerald, sapphire, amethyst
Crushed into a shell
Now it is a thing I found
On the shores of the Auckland sea
From the day I found it
To the present day
It will travel with me until
It finds a different bay
