Abandoned

His electrified mane,
Contradicted his tired, droopy eyes.
The faded mud brown fur,
Stained white from child’s tears.
He lay, slumped,
Like a drunken old man
Tossed aside, and forgotten under the bed.
Abandoned.
Years of waiting for me to return,
Instead he was drowning, In years of neglect.
Outside he once heard the,
CRASH! BANG! SPLASH…
Adventures of best friends.
Now, he can faintly hear the
Click. Click. Click of a laptop.
A smile remaining frozen upon his ragged face,
Although deep beneath the worn out fur, he is losing the human heartbeat
Have we all forgotten?
The only treasure he must hold, Is the warmth of a child’s love.
Without it,
He is swallowed into the ebony darkness
Of a lost toy.
He sits
Waiting, waiting, waiting
For me to remember…
But as time erases these memories, we realise they will not last.
Lost deep within my wondering mind, precious memories locked up inside
But can I still remember?
Will he love me again?
So perhaps, I will have one more look under the bed.
