Bush is Burning

Fire is a monster

it’s everywhere                     everywhere                   everywhere

all the eucalyptus

gone

lost forever

cling to Mum’s soft grey fur

don’t know what to do

bush is burning

heat in my face

fear surrounds me

I breathe in smoke through my big black nose

Mum leads to a safe spot

untouched by the flames

there we wait till fire moves on

vanishes

safe for now
