Charm Bracelet

Fibres like tightly wound rope,
Grasp my wrist like roots to the soil,
Links only to be broken once one is lost.
Snakeskin prickles against my fingertips,
Yet a smooth gem to my heart.
My wrist heavier with each new memory
A dolphin, butterfly, elephant, strawberry
Jostle to reach the blushing pink bauble
Silently breathing secrets
A symbol of change,
From girl to young woman.
Once full of importance,
Young eyes wide with excitement.
Now a reflection of past memories.
A tradition throughout generations.
My heart now walks a different path.
Links broken and a new page turned.
Now kept safe in its box
Untouched yet not forgotten.
