The crackles of fire, the smoke in the air

A plant that is entirely healthy has now become rare

Ashes scattered across the ground like leaves in autumn

The prominent scent of eucalyptus long gone

Firefighters doing their best to extinguish and protect

Australia’s finest forests with almost nothing left

Among all chaos, a koala clinging onto a tree

With all of its home gone, none of its kind left as far as the eyes can see

From the place she called home, she now has to leave

It was not too long ago when she could look at her family and see plenty of koalas hanging on trees

Where wildlife prospered and could roam free

The koala looks back at the place she called home

After a while, the environment has regrown

Today she returns to the place she called home
