Every day I wake up in my tree,

My koala baby next to me.

Hang on, is this actually a joke?

I smell a tiny whiff of smoke…

In the distance, an orange light,

Today the koalas will have to fight.

Growing closer, up my nose,

Where is the firefighter, with his hose?

Destroying the forest, my only home,

The most beautiful place I have ever known.

Orange flames climbing up my tree,

Trying to attack my baby and me.

Climbing higher, the very top,

Pretty sure we will have to hop.

I see my only home burst with flames

Is Mother Nature playing games?

I land in the rubble, with a thud.

I think there’s just a little blood.

In this forest, I will die.

Goodbye, my dear joey, goodbye.
