I recall the day I first got him
His belly like fallen snow
His back a raven black
as his biscuit eyes gleamed in the sun
I snuggled him until the sun peeped over the horizon
Today he lies on my bed as the sun falls down
His belly as white as a wet painted wall
Now his sooty back streaks down to his stumpy tail
I snuggle him as the stars roll by
Then the dreams lay in my head
And the nightmares pass through
As the stars fall down and the sun rises,
steadily I get up and look back at doggie
I hear him whimpering "Don't go!"
But I'll always come back, always.
