I woke up at dawn and saw the sun rise

Wanting to live in the light every day

Not wanting the darkness of night

So begging the light to stay

The colours greeting my eyes were vibrant and saturated

Like they’d been bathed in the light of the rising sun

The birds perched on the ledge of my window only ever sang to me

For me, their only one

I used to notice everything

Feel every moment from within

As the sunlight flittered through the trees

Warming my heart and dappling my skin

They say that time stops for none

That moments are fleeting

So was the case for the sun setting upon my childhood

Leaving me with my once whole heart cold and depleting

I wake up at dusk and see the sun set

Unable to live in the light any day

Still not wanting the darkness of night

But letting the light fade away
