Fire Pit

As the red and orange
flames pierce the air
They illuminate people’s faces
And the dog watches on
from underneath
As the branches break
The wind howls
Leaving the crackle of the fire still going
And the dog watches on
from underneath
As the smoke rises the
smell strengthens
it crimps the nose
And the dog watches on
from underneath
And the fire dies down
Rocks hot to the touch of a hand
Marshmallows soft and squishy
And the dog watches on
from underneath
