Flood Puppy

Fear chokes the town
When endless roaring rain hammered its fists on rooftops demandingly.
It filled the banks, daring them to break.
Bit by bit, the walls grew weaker and still the water kept coming.
Until finally the banks gave in,
Releasing the puppy from its prison.
Now free, it ran with excitement,
Swallowing the land
In its footsteps, chewing playfully at hopeless houses
And bending timid trees with its wagging tail.
Families climbed onto rooftops,
Just out of reach from the puppy’s destructive grasp,
Lapping hungrily at balconies.
Finally, the river retreated back to the waiting banks of the river,
Leaving the town in wrecked ruins.
The innocent pooch did not mean to hurt the tiny town.
Its instincts took over, excitement overwhelming its young brain, taking control.
As the town forgave,
Friendship bloomed.
