Forest shout

The light crunch under my shoe
And the tall trees towering above
Like old ancient souls contrasting the sky's bright blue
The sound of a gentle shove
Made by a northern wombat looking for tussocky
The twittering of the squatter pigeon and the brown treecreeper
The forest so well-known but there is always a discovery
The squirrel glider a daily sleeper
I close my eyes as my senses heighten
The sounds of the eucalypt forest
As I hear a rustle all my muscles tighten
I open my eyes to see the tree crest
Blown side to side by the wind
I reach my hand out to touch the trunk of the spotted gum
That’s when I smiled as my mind is filled
Nothing in the forest is glum
And all the old stories that have been told
That we need to learn about
All so wonderfully bold
And a reason for us and the forest to scream and shout
