Here beside me where the water murmurs

Where the fish glide silvery below the surface

You and I spend our late afternoon

Bound by the friendship and glee of years

The cicadas make their high-pitch whines

And the kookaburras laugh their hysterical laughs

And here we share our secrets

And unburden our souls

Above the swallows swerve and gracefully

Below the flower petals wrap their faces up for the oncoming night

And we zip our jackets to the neck and pull the hoodie up

Squeezing a little more time out of this day

Soon the sun will dip behind the hill

The sky will turn pink, orange, even red

Then you and I will make our way along the whispering tree groves

All talked out and filled with gratitude for having you and you having me
