Hollow

I was a hollow of dry, barren, cold ground.
My body breathed the air of isolation. In and out.
After forever came a day bearing news of hope.
A small change in my hollow that was now rain-soaked.
Soon came the day I would find company.
Warmth came with the people who lived around me.
I supported the people and wildlife equally.
I was a source for their living harmoniously.
One day approached, welcoming an uninvited guest
Who cleared my surroundings, leaving them lifeless.
It turned back to hollow with empty, green stretches.
With short wooden structures, new animals and fences.
My surroundings are embellished with skyscrapers and lights.
The crowds and noises take up most of my nights.
This company I have though, comes with a price.
I still feel alone as I beg for their time.
Now when I look at what my life once kept.
I see many changes yet I'm still not content.
I still have yet to overcome this neglect.
With ruin and ignorance, my hollow is left.
