In the Park

I go to the park and what do I see?
I see birds singing very happily!
I see trees wave in the wind, people sit in the shade,
I see salad sandwiches-freshly made!
Snakes slither through long grass, avoiding big birds.
Bats sleep upside down, not hearing a word.
Magpies swoop people, protecting their nest,
One looks me in the eye, I can tell that I’m next!
Trees are like hotels, with all the animals there,
Coming and going, drifting through the air.
I imagine animal worlds where burrows are homes,
Sometimes in yards, ant-castles not made of stone.
Possums in their burrows, or hanging on trees,
One hit from a kangaroo could get you on your knees.
Big creatures can be found, small ones too,
Microscopic tardigrades live in the Arctic, it's true!
Skies darkening, clouds cover the sun;
I hope there is still time to have fun.
Splish, splash, splosh, it is starting to rain,
Everyone’s running for shelter, oh, what a shame.
