Irreversible Changes

Plip plop the small stream trickling into a pond
the birds screeching loudly in harmony
the trees swaying with the breeze.
Click click a camera snaps
the shrieking stops
the first tourist.
Clink clink a camper’s tent
the bugs scurrying away
the disturbed land, layered with litter.
Echoes of children playing in a newly developed park
after dark, the smell of cigarettes gags the bugs
the loud shouting echoing in the silence.
The sound of screaming trees covered by loud machines
in place of the trees, in came a village
then a town,
then a city…
The colourful laughs of animals and plants
replaced by the sound of wind and cars
tall buildings looking out only to see concrete blocks
the city dull, and lifeless.
