In lonely streets, on sandy days, in crowded parks and alleyways
My joker shadow plays taunting games

He’s a mirror of maddening mock
Wherever my curious feet take flight
Tasting bitter as coffee beans
He slips in and sneaks out of sight

My shadow is a wicked clown
A rainbow just out of reach
Pulling tricks left and right
Pushing my buttons each

But in blindfold worlds, a light-drained room, starry nights without a moon
I feel gloomy as my shadow is swallowed by sleep

Though this joker is terrible and tiresome
I miss my partner in crime
This true blue parrot on my shoulder
Follows me ‘round ‘til bedtime
