Life of a plant

I was watering the plants when I saw it smile
It never budged, it just looked into my eyes.
Five days went by but hadn’t smiled
It was fading slowly and slowly and slowly.
They provide oxygen
We provide carbon dioxide.
Wasn’t that a fair deal.
It was turning rustier and darker.
What was wrong, I said
You hadn’t watered yet, he said.
I just realised and ran back.
I had forgotten to water it for 7 days.
He still hadn’t forgotten that he was mine.
I watered him and day and night,
And showered him with light.
He was going back to shape and had started to smile.
