Lone Koala

A lonely koala,
In the eucalyptus tree,
Ascending to the stars,
Every beat of your heart,
Twitching its head looking down on the land,
Like a hawk to its prey,
But what lies ahead is a monster only meters away,
The raging flame of a fire,
The bushes and trees wailing in pain as it creeps closer,
The tree, the home to the koala,
spreads out its leaves,
shielding the scared animal,
The fire spreading into my heart,
tearing it apart,
The animals, taken away,
Like a speck of dirt in a sandstorm,
You watch helplessly,
every flame shedding a dagger into your heart,
Until it's all gone.
