My Dam

My dam is a place to relax myself,
Trees surround,
Young Cockatoos circle over the dam,
Old Cockatoos sunbake nearby,
The radiant sun strikes the water,
Ducks settle on the surface,
My dog scampers along the dams edge,
The chainsaws arrive.
The chainsaws growl,
The smell of gasoline is in the air,
The Cockatoos fly away,
The ducks stay clear
And my dog howls and runs.
Trees fall into the water,
Ducks get frightened and fly away.
The chainsaws stop,
The land is clear of trees,
All that is left is grass and stumps.
I sit on the edge of my dam again.
I watch tears roll down my dog's eyes.
