Nature's Midnight

When the sun sets and the moon rises
nature fills us with surprises.
The crackle of dried leaves
under the eaves.
Light of moon on the lake
nature's version of a cake
All through the inky dark
not a sound not even a clark
Animals run to their homes
some as still as garden gnomes
Owls come out to flutter
over flowers the colour of butter.
Stars in the big black sky
so bright ants say “oh my!”
Trees get older over night
wishing they were birds of flight
Nature starts a meteor shower
giving the sky a little power
As the morning bird takes flight
It ends the story of nature's midnight.
