New True Anthem

The land, now scarred and burdened with filth
Grime and grit and gruesome
The once fresh soil had thrived and flourished
Now dead from revolution
The crystal clear creeks once teeming with life
Fishes, mussels and crabs too
But when the white settlers came and took them away
Our tribe’s desperate calls rang true
The settlers took her away from us
The land we took much pride in
Her leaves wilted, her children distraught
Judged by the colour of our skin
They locked us up in hard, cold cages
And took us all away
Tortured and raised in white families
Only to return us back today
Their heartless and selfish desires
Brought out the evil within
Tempted to destroy our everlasting heritage
Do they not know their sin?
