Oh, goanna!

Oh, goanna!
In the bushy forest,
A crafty lizard crawls,
His head held high
And his legs all sprawled.
Oh, goanna!
Walking on the land,
His long tail trailing
Making patterns in the sand.
Oh, goanna!
Climbing up the trees,
Striding through the flowers,
Past the buzzing bees.
He snaps up a cricket,
A tasty little snack.
He lounges on a boulder,
The sun warming his back.
Oh, goanna!
Staring at a nest,
A female turkey lounging,
Eggs against her chest.
Oh, goanna!
Lunging for the eggs,
The turkey mother standing up,
Flailing ‘round her legs.
The goanna runs away,
A wound upon his back.
He turns, and starts to walk again,
Beyond the beaten track.
