Dew-kissed leaves on dampened ground

My sister and I, dancing in our too-big gumboots

My dad holding an umbrella, smiling.

Kookaburras perched on branches high,

We giggle as we listen to them.

Our laughter echoes through the sky.

Our dresses get muddy and wet,

Yet we do not worry.

Back then, we did not worry about anything.

Time to go back.

Warm, white towels wrapped around us

We fall asleep in the car.

I miss it.
