Ring of Promise

Chosen for its simplicity, uncomplicated
classic, timeless tradition,
my parents and theirs before them.
Unbroken bonds strong and true.
The band’s embrace is firm,
its essence unyielding.
Gravity grounding its bearer,
monumental its bond; Its promise.
Sculpted in hopeful innocence, unblighted blemish-free,
inscribed now with life’s infractions
sweet expectation somehow cemented in dissonance.
It is done, the promise made in hopeful youth and lack of wisdom.
Worn and weathered, the bond remains unbroken
cherishing the youthful joy of its creation.
My choice, my ring, my promise, my family
Was I wrong?
An answer unnecessary, irrelevant ... It is done.
We are here, made as One. Multiplied.
Daughter, know this - the bond cannot be broken without
agonising
wrenching
So choose wisely.
