The Black Cap

The black cap
That rests upon my crown
A gift from a sister
From an overseas town
Black as night
Lined with grey
Three letters red
To keep light at bay
The shelter given
Hides the pain
As I walk without purpose
Through the pouring rain
Warmth’s rays
Shall not reach my skin
For the heat that tries desperately
Only rebounds off its brim
My heart is cold
I’m aware of that
But I find calidity
In the shade of my black cap
