As we sat on the beach, toes in sand,

I caught a glimpse of a flower

that stood out from the rest.

Not bright, not blue, but black

where colour is what it lacks.

As the water hits the rocks

and the boats at the dock rock

the flower

stands tall

with no care at all

It sways in the wind, with the ones that surround

in the Belize airs,

and with the black orchid bunch.

Laying on the grass of the sandy beach,

that salty smell

we all know so well,

complements the flowers

and their bright black petals.

Although they’re dark, with no outstanding colours,

they’re still beautiful, inside, and out.
