The Comrades Marathon
By Andrew P
Published 22 August 2017
A 50 year old book, with a hard cover that is a faded blue colour
177 tatty, brown pages
The colour of wholemeal bread
Browned from age
On the cover is a black and white picture of a man running the marathon
My grandfather, the runner
An iconic South African race, The Comrades Marathon
As I flick through the pages
I feel as if I’m right there
I can feel the runner’s struggle
And I can hear him screaming out in pain
My book is the race itself
I’m right there watching my grandfather run past
My book inspires me
It tells me that one day I’ll follow in my grandfather’s footsteps
Go back to my roots and win The Comrades Marathon
