Swimming with yabbies,
as the large eucalyptus trees sway,
their leaves whispering solemn stories.
Fear is forgotten,
as the children flew like finches,
letting go of the worn and frayed rope,
diving deep into the dam.
Sediment and sludge squeeze between their toes,
parents cautiously watching from the waters edge.
Most summer days were spent here,
swimming till the sun set.
