The Lady of the River

Down by the banks and the flowing water,
Under the boughs of the great gum trees,
There she rests her head.
Where no one ever dares to go,
Amid the bush and wild forest birds,
There she waits.
She waits for the rain to come,
To wash away all hurts caused,
But no one knows.
No one knows that she waits there,
Watching the world go by,
And though the sky is her witness,
And the river is her friend,
She grows lonely, waiting there, on her own.
