The Last Kookaburra Standing

Clueless was I, a morning like any other.
The scent of serenity an aroma of a new day
The grip of my feet on the rough branch below
Singing tunes of joy, keeps harm at bay.
Twigs and branches, my home since birth
Through the passing warmth of summer
Each blissful day, a gift from Mother Earth
Bloom of the forest tasted like dew.
Distant mist kissed
Axes and arms spell my fate.
No running or hiding.
Sealed in sorrow, today’s date.
I sat again still and hopeful.
Left ignored, left unheard.
The cries of trees, oh so awful.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
The trees in which I sat every morning.
Now lay before me in defeat, While they rampage my forest
Hollow hearth, helpless heart, shattered mindset, all by myself,
while I slowly fall apart.
