I put my leg back

To prepare for the ruck

I felt my boots sink

Into the wet, sloppy mud.

I am trapped in an oval

Guarded by towering trees.

It felt as if

I was as small as a pea.

The grass around me panicked

As the wind picked up its pace

So did my jersey,

Outlining the shape of my waist.

A bird soared through the clear blue sky

Taking my gaze away.

BRR! The siren sounded,

The whistle was blown,

The game kicked off,

All on its own.

I was too busy admiring the nature surrounding me,

That I didn’t care about the world around me.
