The Night the Elements Went to War

I think of when the tale will be told,
To wide eyed children, listening to stories of old.
A story my memory has never ignored,
The night the elements went to war.
“It happened so many years ago,
The mountains were my childhood home.
The forest was my own backyard,
And the trees, my very own.
The procession of guardians stood in line,
These tall trees on the mountain side.
My companions, standing silent and still,
Dependable, old ones protected me, till…
The sun dipped down, and the night grew dark,
A sinister wind began to grow.
It snaked and wove it’s way around,
Our happy little mountain homes.
Wild, whipping winds began to roar,
And everyone tried to lock their doors.
This ferocious wind wouldn’t be ignored,
As it macheted the tall trees and scored.
The elements, their weapons were drawn,
Giants fell, as if they were sawn.
The dark had disguised the mass devastation,
As we woke to a brand new dawn.”
