The Orange-Bellied Parrot

I will not fly
I will not leave
For this is where I belong
Once my family was here with me
But now they fly no more
I perch upon the top branch of the old gum tree
Watching these animals destroy my home
They are like nothing I’ve seen before
They make unnatural sounds
And leave tracks in the earth as they go
Earth-bound creatures come out of these animals
I want to peck their eyes out
For they are destroying my home
What makes me angry is there is nothing I can do
I will sit here perched on the top branch of this gum tree
Watching these animals destroy my home
