Deep in the heart of the Northern Territory

Sun scorching hot.

The smell of eucalyptus trees fills the air

The soft red blanket of sand tingles your feet.

Laughing kookaburras away they flea

As kangaroos bounce never still, never stay

Emus peak from behind bushes in curious display.

Little lizards scurry across the oven-baked sand

Dingos yelp and howl for prey

As snakes burrow into homes within dry land.

The sun begins to set, the gully shadows appear

As the blanket of red sand starts to fade.

I drift off to sleep in the nice dark shade.
