The Quokka

From your dark hole, your
little wet nose emerges,
Then your curious eyes,
Worried you could be,
someone's next meal,
you cautiously step into the night.
Leaving the warmth of you burrow,
you hop through the tall grass,
headed to a nearby tree,
to feed on new leaves and bark,
all the while watching for predators,
you need to keep your baby safe.
With a full belly you head home,
a noise in the scrub startles you,
you bound furiously,
footsteps, leaves crunching, sound of teeth,
you dive into the safety of your burrow.
