The Regent Honey Eater

I stare into the distance, my wings folded back.
I soar, up high in the blue sky, the soft clouds behind me.
Light stretches around me and my feathers are covered in warmth,
I drop back down like a shooting star as I land, but then, I hear a niose.
Thump. Thump. Humans.
The world is swirling and I can't move anymore.
The trees are statues
I see a small yellow dot in the sky and the soft whiteness turns to dark clay.
I feel raindrops on me and I realise that the sky is crying.
The thumping stops and the humans depart with hundreds of our homes,
My tears fall and the wind seems to shout angrily, almost like a tornado
They shout: "They destroyed your home, destroy theirs too!"
But I'm just one bird, what can I do?
The rain pitter-patters on the squelchy grass, as I stare longingly at the now darkening sky.
Night arrives like a big dark blanket covering the world,
Tiny white diamonds appear amongst the blanket and make unique constellations.
The shielding trees that once surrounded me are now gone, like a house with no walls...
Open to the world.
What will this come to?
When will we fall into nothingness?
