The woods behind my house

I’m late for work.
I have an assignment due tomorrow.
I have footy training on later.
And yet I stop,
At the woods,
Behind my house.
The woods behind my house
Are quiet.
Are old, are slumbering, hold secrets.
Sunlight is dappled on the earth.
There are old boots and car bumpers and bones,
Buried in the soil.
Birds sing.
The air tastes different.
I’m late for work.
I have an assignment due tomorrow.
I have footy training on later.
And yet I stop,
At the woods,
Behind my house.
