Through a Koala's Eyes

As I sit here in my tall gum tree,
I hear the sounds of mother nature’s anger,
I struggle with the decision to stay or flee,
But my heart is holding like an anchor.
The heat is rising and the smoke is thickening,
The crackling begins to pierce my ears,
The ferocity of the flames is strengthening,
My courage disappears and turns to fear.
I look to the horizon of the mountain top,
I see the blackening of the once blue sky,
My claws pull the bark from my home and I drop,
I feel so lite I could almost fly.
I’ve lost all hope and belief,
All of these weird sounds around me,
To be back in the bush would be a relief,
The tree canopy is all but a memory.
