'What have we done?'

Beautiful ocean
Crystal clear water
Dazzling white sand,
I might get a good tan
Peaceful, graceful
Waves roll and play
Aroma of seaweed
I might catch a wave
Today a hard metal can,
Shiny and out of place
How did it get here?
I might pick it up
This time a white kitchen rubbish bag
Split open like a gutted fish
Its insides everywhere
I might ignore it
Now no dazzling sand
Water littered with debris
The waves no longer play
I might have made a mistake
