Where I belong

The mighty waves roll onto the soft white sand, kissing it softy while my sorrows wash away. Its wonderful salty aroma, almost like when Mama enters the kitchen, has a still, calming sound like the peace after the storm. It's sweet, a soft voice whispering to me, my old friend in the dead of night. The waves crashing like thunder on the shore, when sunset draws near, the foam popping sounds like whispers in the night. “Shhh, shhh, shhh”. Calming my heavy heart, mind, and soul. Quiet. The soft sand under my sun-kissed feet glistens as the water washes my sandy sorrows away. The swift fish glide gracefully under the shimmering, shiny water, showing their shiny scales for all eyes to see, shimmering flawlessly in the beautiful sunset. I feel like Moana as the ocean yells my name, beckoning me to come nearer, drawing me into its vast depths. Every night when Papa and I paid our tributes to the ocean, he would tell me that if I swam past the crashing waves, rolling thunder and the clapping lightning, I would see my star that watches over me. It is nearly impossible to comprehend the beauty and danger of the ocean, how its cunning beauty snatches you away from the face of the earth, to be seen by the fish that lurk below the vast, watery surface and all that fall into its cunning trap. Only a few know the dangers of the ocean. Nevertheless, this is truly where I belong.
