White Boughs

The gum tree
high and lofty
swaying in the wind.

Green grey leaves
slim and slender
covering the tree.

A tall supple trunk,
Robust and strong,
pale and white.

Standing upright
day and night
all seasons of the year.

For this is the majestic gum tree,
part of our history,
the glorious gum tree.
