Winston and Emily

I am Winston
I swim through the glistening water
As calm as a snail
I am as free as I can be
I’m with my family catching fish and having it for dinner
I am happy
I am the happiest creature in the world
Then I see all the people staring at me not stopping once
I run to the back waiting for the door to open
My family came out wondering what I was doing
“Look around
We’re not even free,” Winston said
Everyone still thinks we are safe
Then I realised I was all alone in the darkness
Waiting for light
I had no family
I hear the door open
I run as fast as I can
It’s a person
The person knows I’m scared she pats me it feels nice
This person visits me every day
I love this person
This person is my family
