A black creature enters my sight.

Hovering beside me after harsh winter flight

It is as cold as it always is,

but it is warmer with you here.

“Why stay?” I call to the wings in the sky.

It is far too bright out.

You blind me from the fast-fading light.

A dark shimmering of hope.

“Come to save me?” I joke.

But no… startled fluttering signals I went too far.

“…Don’t leave me…”

Now I am the only body in the darkness.

My shape bears scars of loneliness and fear.

And it is far too cold out.

“Why go?” I cry to the empty sky.

The frosty air is all I know with you gone.

It is cold without you, my love.

But deep down I know,

Winter crows always must go…
